“Is It Good?”

March 25, 2009

Obviously.

‘Nuff Said.

Except an explanation might be beneficial, so here goes:

I detest if when people stroll into the cafe and, when referring to one of our products, asks “Is it good?”  It’s pretty much the dumbest question you can ask someone who is being paid to sell you stuff.  Of course it’s good.  It’s goddamned fantastic.  Divine.  Utterly beyond belief.  ‘Cause you wouldn’t have asked if that wasn’t what you wanted to buy and were hoping I’d talk you out of.

The only way I’m going to talk a customer out of a sale is if I’m sure I can talk them into a bigger one.

…So of course “it” is good.  Don’t bother asking, assume.  Then, either assess it based on what information you have available to you or just take a risk and buy the fucker.  But don’t ask me to talk you out of it, it’s not going to happen.

Ahaha, I have totally come across this too. Of course we’re not going to tell you a drink we sell totally sucks! For example, we had this new coffee flavour recently, Maple. Sounds good…NO, it was TERRIBLE. So bad. And what happens, at least three people that day asked if it was good. And as said, I’m not going to tell you it sucks in front of many other potential customers and my boss. Eventually I got tired of outright lying to customers or dodging the question and just started giving people taste tests, which on a $2 cup of coffee is a little crazy, just buy it!
Also, there was one girl who had three cups she loved it so much, so really you can’t judge for other people’s tastes, making it even more useless to ask us if it’s good.

Yeah, that’s been how I’ve dealt with terrible flavoured coffees as well. “I really only drink espresso, but … why don’t you try some? Then you can tell me!”

Only three? I envy you, that’s a slow day for Cafe KW.

Haha, this is totally true. I have yet to hear anyone say, “Nope. It sucks.”
