And It’s Over

September 8, 2008

On September 1, at roughly 12:28 AM, I took my final call as Staff of Mobile Wrench, at least for this run of things.  And, true to form, it was awesome.

Poor chap out of Victoria, calling in.  He starts of telling me he has a “kinda” flat tire and needs a tow.  “Ok,” I say, “but we can change a tire for him if he prefers…”  “No, no,” he tells me, “…there’s also some rim damage, I don’t think you can just change it over.”  I’m a little puzzled, and it sounds like there’s something he’s not telling me…  “Oh.  Did you just not notice and keep driving?  That sort of rim damage is usually pretty minor…”  There’s a sigh from the other end of the phone.  “Well, ok … I was doing doughnuts in the parking lot … and the wheel fell off.  The whole thing, though, not just the tire…”

I couldn’t help myself.  Immediately, I reply with “…And what did you learn…?” …to get the priceless response of a sheepish “Don’t do doughnuts in a Civic?” from my new friend.

Were the bolts loose or stripped?

He wasn’t sure, and I couldn’t exactly see, but he figured from the amount of noise involved that he’d snapped them.

    Replied.
