Sweet!

June 29, 2007

I have a job again – at another coffee place, a little further down Main.  We’ll call this one Community Cup.  It suits them.  Also fairly high-end, with a nice atmosphere and cool people working there.  I think.  Regular community events, bands, that kinda shit.  This will be an awesome job.  I have a few doubts about the beans themselves – using Cuppa Joe roasts, which I see as somewhat dubious, but…  No worries.

I do get to play with a La Marzoco machine, which is the gold standard of the industry.  (Synesso is better, but a bit of an unestablished upstart.)

I’m really stoked about this – to give you an idea how awesome this place is, I went back to Caffeine to chat with my good friends there, and Coyola said something along the lines of “Don’t get me wrong, I love it here, but I’m pretty jealous you’re working there…”

Obviously, it’s a cool place.  I make less that I did at Caffeine, but apparently the tips are better.

Oh, and congratulations are due to Rachel, as well, who just got on at the Waves on the North Shore.  She’ll be joining me as a coffee geek in short order.

I’ve worked in the service industry. The pay is awful, but the work itself isn’t bad. The customers can be annoying, but it’s so much easier than… I dunno… digging a ditch or something.

It’s where I was before. Pay’s not that bad here – it’s a sellers market for any sort of job, so wages are fairly competitive, there’s only a few jobs that can get away with offering minimum wage and stay fully-staffed.

And I’m also likely going to end up as a mover once I’ve got a schedule worked out.

Yay! Thanks Earthman! It was a good day all round! We both have jobs again! Btw, expect me to ask you a ton of questions about coffee in the next little while… need to look like I know stuff! 🙂

Not a problem. I’ll help how I can, though… I can only do so much without being there…

I am curious if that girl with the arm band tattoos is acutally rad or just has rad ink. Report back, please.

She still works there, so I will be able to scope such things. She was the one what told me when to show up and give my resume to the owner, actually. Seems quiet, but we’ll see later. I have this suspicion that I’ve already worked with my soon-to-be favourite co-worker. Unless everyone is unbelievably cool there, in which case I’ll actually have some competition.

congrats on the new gig! hmm, if it’s where i think it is, i’ll keep my eye open for ya! though, i’m not much of a coffee drinker i’m afraid.

I’m pretty sure you know exactly which one it is.

…We have teas… Not as great tea as Shaktea, but still decent.
